Japan Voice

Vol.002 Theme: Na Wahine Auli'i Jan. 18, 2008
I have been working on this book for the last three years. Thinking about it, talking about it, writing notes, taking photos, off and on for three years. I wanted to somehow communicate the essence of MANA ( heart ) of Hawai'i to allwho loves Blythe, Hawai'i and nature.

Blythe was photographed in paradise. She was dressed in outfits created by fallen leaves, flower petals, sea weed, grass and sand that was found on the grounds of this paradise.

The content of the book come from legends, and myths of Hawai'i spoken by its people for almost 2000 years. All of the stories feature either princesses, chieftess, maidens, goddesses, sisters, daughters or mothers as the main characters. It is written in Japanese and the language of Hawai'i. There are 200,000 Japanese women who study the art of Hula the traditional dance of Hawai'i. The seek to know more about the culture of the islands and many of them seriously study the language and the history of Hawai'i for this reason.

This is a book about Hawai'i by Blythe. And through this book I hope to share the beauty that is deep within the cultures of the islands as well as the beauty of Blythe that keep revealing itself in new ways. I hope you will enjoy the colorful and beautiful photographs and for those who can read Japanese, the inspiring stories that are told here.
